چکیده
Solid–Liquid Phase Transitions In article number 2300542, Franklin Liou, Hsin-Zon Tsai, Alex Zettl, Johannes Lischner, Michael Crommie, and co-workers use scanning tunneling microscopy to image a solid–liquid phase transition with sub-nanometer spatial resolution at the surface of graphene field-effect transistor. They electrostatic gating drive reversible transitions between quasi-1D molecular solid 2D ionic liquid phase. Transiently heating cooling device enables non-equilibrium melting dynamics be visualized.

Atomic Insights into the Melting Behavior of Metallic Nano-catalysts
In the present study, molecular dynamics simulations have been utilized to provide fundamental understanding of melting behavior of pure Pd and Pt nanoparticles with the size of 10 nm in diameter, both free and graphene-supported during continuous heating. The embedded atom method is employed to model the metal-metal interactions, whereas a Lennard-Jones potential is applied to describe the met...
متن کاملMolecular Dynamics Simulation of the Melting Process in Au15Ag40 Nanoalloys
In this study the operations of melting of Au15Ag40 nanoalloy have been studied using the molecular dynamic simulations through the Gupta multiparticle potential and the nonergodicity of simulations is eliminated by the multiple histogram method. The melting characteristics are determined by the analysis of variations in the potential energy. The calculations indicate that the melting of Au15Ag...
متن کاملMetamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).
By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.

متن کاملMolecular imaging: spawning a new melting-pot for biomedical imaging
Predicting the future is a dangerous undertaking at best, and not meant for the faint-hearted. However, viewing the advances in molecular medicine, genomics and proteomics, it is easy to comprehend those who believe that molecular imaging methods will open up new vistas for medical imaging. The knock on effect will impact our capacity to diagnose and treat diseases. Anatomically detectable abno...
